An increasing number of companies are re-applying for the active ingredients in EU, including metam from Taminco, triazoxide from Bayer, flupyrimidol from Sepro Europe.
EU commission’s draft decision of non-inclusion of metam in Annex I and the withdrawal of authorizations for plant protection products containing the substance met with opposition from numbers of member states. Taminco announced to re-apply this active ingredient last year. Even though EU ministers haven’t got enough votes to over-turn European Parliament’s decision, the application of Metam for particular purpose finally get extension to Dec 30th, 2014. For metam the rapporteur Member State is Belgium.
Same was the case with Triazoxide. European Parliament firmly implemented the non-inclusion decision, and set up its schedule to gradually withdraw from the market. Under current policy, the registration will be canceled on May 31st, 2010. Hereafter, the registers still have one more year to sell and use existing stock. During the re-applying process for Triazoxide, U.K. is the rapporteur member state.
Fluprimidol also was required to withdraw the market before July 2009, and since July 13th, 2010, any products contained this active ingredient can not be sold. Finland acts as rapporteur member state for the substance.
The results haven’t confirmed, but it’s certain that registers would be required to submit further information which was lack of experiments supporting. Take metam for example, inadequate residues studies and lack of information on a toxicologically relevant impurity, N,N'-dimethylthiourea (DMTU), did not permit to demonstrate the acceptability of consumer exposure exerted direct effect on the disapprove decision; for the re-applying process, more investments will be used on related aspect.
