Russian Market Experienced Rapid Growth
2010-4-29

Russia kept 20% steady growth rate since 2005, total consumption rise by 70%. Meanwhile, the area which require for pesticide application grows exponentially, this year the figure turn out to be 63,000,000 hectares.

Herbicides, take over half of the market in 2009 with 61% of sales amount among all pesticide categories. According to previous statistics, herbicide sales in 2008 decreased from 10, 000 metric tons to 8,700 metric tons; fungicides and insecticides both maintain stable growth with the 1,800 metric tons and 1,400 metric sales amount respectively. However, no obvious growth on seed treatment pesticides, only slightly fluctuate around 900 metric tons.

As a result of insufficient domestic pesticide production, 50% of which reply on importing from other countries. Although, a few local manufacturers, represented by AUGUST Company and ALSIKO-AGROPROM are moving forward with larger market share.

However, a considerable quantity of fake and inferior quality pesticide product come into Russian market as well, valued 85,000,000 USD. That means as higher as 15%, or even 30% of pesticide sales are occupied. We suspect that business climate influenced by its bureaucracy should be chiefly responsible. Whatever, higher registration barrier and huge investment also drive people to produce and use those pesticides under ineffective supervision.
