Thailand is the largest exporter of rice in the whole world. Now government plans to reduce the plant areas of rice to push asset its price.

The vice prime minister KittiratNaRanong said: “We will try to persuade farmers to turn to plant manihot, sugarcane or balata or other crops.” However, Kittirat did not show the actual area-reducing values.

The plant area of rice is 9.6 million hectares. The total production is about 30~32 million MT. Thai government will purchase rice from farmers 500 UDS/MT which is twice as high as the market price.

As government intervening, the export price of rice will reach 870 USD/MT.
