Seed Market Monopoly In South Africa To Be Confirmed
2011-1-31

Dupont Pioneer Company acquiring Panner which is the seed company of the South Africa has been rejected by Competition Commission of the South Africa. The commission suggests that both Dupont and Panner which share the markets up to 48% are the first three seed companies in the local region. If Dupont acquisition is successful, it will monopolize the market. Then the price will rise and the innovation will be restrained. While Dupont insists that this acquisition will be an advance to supply efficiently. It will increase the harvest and improve the quality. On account of these two reasons, Dupont has lodged an appeal to Non-Competition Court of the South Africa. The court will accept and hear the case in March 2011. If Dupont win over, this acquisition will be finished in first half year of 2011. Since Monsanto acquired two seed companies in the South Africa, Panner has become the only one local large seed corporation.

Brazil Turns to the Net Importer of Agrochemicals
2010-12-27

According to the statistic data from Sindag, the import volume in Brazil has increased 3 times since past 10 years. Now Brazil depends heavily on importing agrochemicals. Going up century 80 times, three-fourths of the agrochemicals were manufactured or formulated in the local factories. However, the situation now is poles apart. 75% of the agrochemicals in Brazil market are imported.

The increasing of the import volume is up to the import from Argentina, China and India. The import volume from Argentina is increased from 1352MT to 33765MT since from the first 9 months in 2001 to the same term in 2010. The importer volume from China is increased 2100MT to 32000MT since from the first 9 months in 2001 to the same term in 2010. Scarcely any agrochemicals are imported from India in 2001. However, the importer volume is increased 20 times since 10 years. And the importer volume in the first 9 months in 2010 reaches 4600MT.

The main technical agrochemicals imported from Argentina are Glyphosate, 2,4-D; and the main imported from China are Carbendazim and Tebuconazole and from India are Mancozeb, Topstn-Methyl, Acephate, Chlopyrifos, Imidacloprid and acephatemet.

The competition of agrochemical market is intensified because of the increasing import volume. That takes many benefits to the local farmers.

Although the local farmers can take many benefits from the intensified competition of the agrochemical market, profits to the agrochemicals business are less and less.
