Great Investments In Registration Lead To Success
2010-3-25

During CAC 2010, we could easily find that many domestic manufacturers and firms put more concentration in registration. At present, only a few Chinese agrochem firms register their products directly in foreign countries. Instead, they sell products to foreign companies and the registration is not under their property. Among all the registration Chinese companies made, they are mostly focus on developing countries. Seldom do they attempt to explore the EU or US market.

However, this will be different in the near future as many Chinese companies realize the importance of registration. Due to all applicants need to submit the dossiers from GLP Lab while registering in EU or the other countries which export food supplies to EU & USA. They have invested more in this affair in order to grip the initiative. It is believed that registration & completed dossiers support will be the first step to success.

Brazil Urged to Boost Tax on Chinese Herbicides
2010-3-22

Monsanto Co., the world’s largest seed producer, plans to lobby Brazil’s government for higher import taxes on the herbicides from China, saying that below-cost shipments are eroding its market share.

St. Louis-based Monsanto and rival Syngenta AG, based in Basel, Switzerland, have sought counter below-cost imports in markets from Brazil to Europe. The European Union decided to suspend for an extra year at 29.9 percent tariff on Glyphosate from China (include Taiwan) and Malaysia.

Brazil considers a new duty, to replace the current 2.1% charge on the price $ 3.60 per kg, an industry source confirms. That amounts to flat fee of around $ 0.08 per kg on any price up to $ 3.60 per kg. The decision is not yet official, but would likely be effective immediately after ratification.

EU Raised 11 Pesticides MRL Standard
2010-3-5

Due to public safety concerns, the EU commission had raised the standard of 11 pesticides’ Maximum Residue Level (MRL) in November 2009. These 11 pesiticides including 7 Insecticides: Dimethoate, Fenamiphos, Methamidophos, Methomyl, Omethoate, Acephate, Thiodicarb; 3 Fungicides: Fenarimol, Procymidone, Vinclozolin and a plant growth regulator Ethephon. Among all the products, Dimethoate, Ethephon, Fenamiphos and Methomyl have all been re-registered in the EU. While Fenarimol, Procymidone and Methamidophos were prohibited for 18months after their patents ended, until 2007 only that these products obtained the registration.

European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) reported that the close relations between pesticides and crops have caused some people especially the children exposed to health risk. That resulted in the raise of MRL standard. The new standard will be executed 6 months later, before the new standard is established officially, the pesticides residue in frozen foods and juices will still be according to the old MRL standard.

As a result to this action, farmers and importers will face larger pressure which in terms will cause higher production cost and lead to increase of food prices in that region.
