This month there were few major incidents happened in China’s chemical industry which brought up the concerns about environment and production safety during the summer day.

On 16th Jun at 18:20pm, an oil leak after a pipeline explosion at the Dalian new port in northeast China has been sealed off and further pollution prevented after valves were shut.

On 26th July at 4:20pm, an ONCB plant’s HNO3 (Nitric acid) at Bengpu, Anhui province exploded, it caused 3 serious injured and big damage. The incident has caused ONCB’s supply shortage.

On 28th July at 10am, a liquefied gas plant in Najing exploded, the fires were massive, a communication base station nearby was destroyed. At least 2 dead and 300 injured, the total amount of losses is unknown yet.

Many plants have stopped production for maintanence when the weather is getting warmer. Some products like Pyrimethanil, 2,4-D, Mancozeb etc are temporarily out of supply due to environmental pressure. Most of the plants will resume their productions after 1-2 months later.

Armyworms Infestation Soar up the Demand of Pyrethriod Insecticide in Philippines

At present, Philippines is inflicted by the Armyworms, great loss occurred in farm. Philippine Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala ordered the distribution of P900,000 carbaryl and pyrethroid insecticides to control the spread of armworms attack farms in Batangas,Cavite and Quezon.

He has instructed Undersecretary Joel Rudinas and Assistant Secretary Dennis Araullo to monitor the infestations and coordinate with local government officials and agriculture technicians.

Alcala also says the department of Agriculture regional field units in Regions IV-A (Calabarzon) and III (Central Luzon),n and the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) to work closely the respective provincial and municipal governments, particularly in Bataan, Cavite,Batangas, and Quezon-where armyworms infestations were reported.

This might be the great opportunity for Chinese domestic agro-chemical plant to increase the market share in the pie of demand. One of the products with core competitive is Acephate.

EPA Controls The Usage of Endosulfan

EPA has recently released a new policy against the application of Endousulfan. According to related research, this pesticide is high-toxic to life on the land and in the water, as well as birds and mammals feed on them. Researches also indicated that this material is capable to enter human's body through respiratory and dermal exposure, in some cases, even cause fatal damages.

Endosulfan has a controversial reputation in the field of agrochemicals. On one hand, its performance on elimation of mites and insects is unblamale and thus, it has been used widly on a various of crops. Such as tea, vegetables, fruits, cotton and coffee. Some large agricultural countries including China, India, Brazil and Australia consumed considerable quantity each year. Nevertheless, Endosulfan also appeared to be highly toxic. EU, some Asia and west-africa countries have prohibited any usage of this substance.

This also remind us to the importance of safe medication use. Meanwhile, the government is also expected to increase the promotion strength of those lower toxic, low residue pesticides in the aspects of medication guidence and price support. To those agricultural exporters, Bifenthrin and Deltamethrin could be used as alternatives in the case of serious forbidden policy against Endosulfan in U.S.A.
