Brazil Tightens Registration and Usage of 14 Active Ingredients
2010-1-15

Brazil as a country that promoted environmental safety has put more and more efforts in control of the usage of highly toxic pesticides in its country. Previously, Brazil has a dispute on whether to ban Endosulfan, but the ministry of Agriculture had proposed not to ban this product due to its wide usage on cotton, coco and corn crops.

Not long ago, the ministry of Health (ANVISA) proposed another ban on Methamidophos and Trichlorfon, and limited usage of Thimet. The bureau also suggested the cancelation of toxicology studies of these active ingredients and their formulations.

According to Agropages.com, since Feb 2008, the bureau has started to re-evaluate 14 types of active ingredients, other pesticides which are also on the list including Glyphosate, Paraquat, Lactofen, Abamectin, Parathion-methyl, Carbofuran and Thiram.

The final result has not been introduced yet, so far by now, we see there are still parties who opposed the suggestions. Hence, it is not certain that all these products will be forbidden in future.

Raw materials price up,almost all the pesticide boom up
2010-1-7

Almost all pesticide prices rise up by 20% in China following the markup of price of yellow phosphorus, methanol and natural gas. Recently, yellow phosphorus and other industrial chemicals are in short supply.

Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan province are rich with yellow phosphorus. The main reason of the shortage is due to the fact that the residents in these areas are in power shortage. Industrial electricity price rose up by 10%, and the output of yellow phosphorus is lower than before. Now oil price is almost 75 USD per barrel, people turn to use natural gas though the supply is very limited. Imidacloprid, Carbendazim, Mancozeb and all other organophosphorus pesticide prices boom up rapidly.

We predict that in 2010 chinese pesticide cost will be higher than last year, it is hard to say that the price can continued to rise or not in a whole year, but rise in price is a key word in first quarter.
